Vocations
in the
Community
of Nazareth

The Community of Nazareth recognises that a call to religious life requires careful testing over time. Vocations are received through discernment, not assumed or promoted.

This page outlines how the Community understands vocation and how those who are exploring a possible call may proceed.

The Community of Nazareth is for those who feel drawn to a shared life of prayer, stability, and faithful presence while remaining fully engaged in ordinary responsibilities. A vocation to the Community is not a call away from parish life, work, or existing commitments. It is a call to live these realities within a shared Rule and a common rhythm of prayer, with accountability and support. Not everyone who enquires will be called to continue. Recognising this clearly and honestly is part of faithful discernment.

Discernment

Vocation begins with discernment. Those who are exploring a possible call are invited to begin with a period of enquiry and reflection. This includes reading the Rule, establishing a basic rhythm of prayer, and entering conversation with the Community.

Discernment is unhurried and open-ended. It may lead towards formation, or it may confirm that this way of life is not appropriate. Both outcomes are respected.

Formation

For those whose discernment continues, formation provides a structured and supported way of testing this vocation in practice. Formation takes place alongside ordinary life and unfolds gradually. It attends to prayer, stability, integration of commitments, and readiness for shared religious life. Progression through formation is not automatic and remains subject to review and discernment.

A Shared Responsibility

Vocation is discerned collaboratively. It involves the individual, the Community, and appropriate pastoral and ecclesial oversight. Decisions are made with care, realism, and attention to long-term faithfulness rather than short-term enthusiasm.

Future Vocations

As a newly founded community, we are dedicating this first season of our life together to prayer, formation, and deepening our common life under the Rule.

In order to allow this foundation to take proper shape, we will begin welcoming our first Postulants in Spring 2027.

Those discerning a connection with the Community of Nazareth as Associates will be invited to begin that journey in Autumn 2027.
