Community life in the Community of Nazareth is lived in dispersion.

Our members do not share a cloister or a common household. Instead, we are bound together by a shared Rule, a common rhythm of prayer, and a commitment to faithful presence in ordinary life. We remain rooted in our own parishes, professions, families, and places, while choosing to belong to one another as a spiritual household in Christ.

This is a way of life shaped not by withdrawal from the world, but by attentiveness within it.

Communion Without a Cloister

Though geographically dispersed, we understand ourselves as one community.

Our communion is sustained through shared prayer in time, mutual intercession, common discernment, and regular opportunities to gather — both virtually and, when possible, in person. Each member commits to resisting isolation and spiritual individualism, choosing instead a life that is accountable, connected, and sustained by others.

Community life here is quiet, intentional, and real.

A Shared Rhythm

Although our daily circumstances differ, our lives are held together by a shared rhythm.

Prayer anchors our days; work is received as participation in God’s creative and redemptive activity; silence creates space for listening; and simplicity helps us live attentively and freely. This rhythm is lived with flexibility and gentleness, recognising human limitation and the realities of dispersed life.

Faithfulness, rather than intensity, is the measure of our commitment.

Hospitality and Presence

Our community life is outward-facing.

Hospitality is expressed primarily as hospitality of heart: attentiveness, availability, and faithful presence to those we encounter in daily life. We are especially attentive to those who feel overlooked, forgotten, or marginalised.

This is not a life of anxious activism, but of steady, prayerful presence.

A Nazareth Life

The inspiration for our common life is the hidden life of Jesus at Nazareth.

We seek holiness not through extraordinary practices, but through ordinary faithfulness: showing up to prayer, work, relationships, and responsibility with patience and love. This is a life marked by gentleness, availability to God and neighbour, contemplative presence, and joyful perseverance.

Much of this life remains unseen — and that is part of its witness.

Mutual Care and Accountability

Community life involves responsibility for one another.

Members pray regularly for one another by name, remain attentive to the needs of the community, and participate in shared discernment. Care is offered through listening, presence, and honest conversation, grounded in trust rather than control.

Leadership within the community is exercised as service, and belonging is sustained through mutual respect and perseverance.

A Life of Discernment

Community life in Nazareth is a shared journey of discernment.

Some are called to make lifelong commitments within the community; others are drawn to walk alongside us for a season. We trust that God works through both, and that no honest engagement with this way of life is wasted.
